Every year, the U.S. Dressage Federation names a USDF horse of the year in each of the 10 dressage competition levels. The award is given to the top-scoring horse in each level. The Second Level award in 2005 went to Ravenelli’s Wizard, owned by Simone Ahern-Harless, owner of Sun Prairie Stables on Highway 24. Ahern-Harless and Ravenelli’s Wizard took the reserve title for Second and Third Level awards at the Great American/USDF Region 5 Championships in 2005.Ahern-Harless bought the 17-hand Dutch Warmblood gelding in 2003. “He has been a sweet horse from day one,” says Ahern-Harless in a March USDF Connection article about the award. “His ears are always forward, he always comes right to me in the paddock, he’s never turned his head away … he and I have a great connection.”Ahern-Harless recently achieved her USDF instructor certification for training, fourth level.
