Step back into time – the late 1800s and early 1900s – as actors dressed in period costumes portray a variety of Old Colorado City citizens who lived, spent time or found their final resting place in this town. The cemetery crawl, sponsored by the Old Colorado City Historical Society, takes place at Fairview Cemetery at 1000 S. 26th St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 13. Enjoy a walking tour and hear the stories of a pioneer doctor, a businessman, a madam, a renaissance man, a Bible waving preacher, a Civil War sergeant and many more. The Golden Cycle Mill, the Midland Railway, rip-roaring bars and brothels and the Indian stockades were a part of Old Colorado City, which has retained much of its original pioneer spirit as the area now known as the “Westside of Colorado Springs.” Founded in August 1859, Old Colorado City experienced more colorful frontier history in its first 10 years. The Old Colorado City Historical Society is devoted to preserving that history, including its historic buildings, culture and spirit.Admission to the cemetery crawl: adults $7; $5 if tickets are purchased in advance at the history center at 1 South 24th St.; children 12 and under $3.
