On Sunday January 23rd, the new Wendy’s in Falcon held a VIP opening and asked the El Paso County 4-H to invite all its members and their families to enjoy a delicious meal. It was a huge success and Wendy’s presented 4-H a check for $1,225 as a thank you for their partnership. This took place at the Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Monday, January 24th. Wendy’s will be a great addition to the Falcon area located at 7525 McLaughlin Road.Since the beginning of 4-H in Colorado in 1920, 4-H has always served all youth from rural to urban, low income to upper income, but the focus has always been on the child in need and what 4-H could do for this youth. Today in El Paso County over 50% of youth involved in the 4-H program come from low income to lower middle income families.Members range in age from 5 to 18 years of age, come from various areas in the county – from Rush to Colorado Springs, and Black Forest to Fountain. These young people develop skills, leadership techniques, citizenship qualities and sound management practices through completion each year of one or more of the 129 projects offered in agriculture, home economics, engineering, natural resources and related fields; and also though participation in 4-H club meetings, activities and events.4-H is a local, state and national youth program carried out under the guidance of the Federal Extension Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Colorado State University and the El Paso County Extension Service.
