"We are a nation of many nationalities, many races, many religions — bound together by a single unity, the unity of freedom and equality. Whoever seeks to set one nationality against another, seeks to degrade all nationalities."

  MVEA annual meeting

On June 8, more than 250 people attended the 76th annual meeting of Mountain View Electric Association, held in Limon, Colorado.
One highlight of the meeting: Members were invited to ride an MVEA bucket truck to watch a high voltage electric safety demonstration. Attendees could also visit an array of booths to learn about MVEA programs like Operation Round Up and the Co-op Connections Card.
Guests enjoyed a barbecue dinner prepared by Troy Merrill of Troy’s Specialty Bar-B-Que out of Woodrow, Colorado. Limon Public Schools Nutrition Services made cinnamon rolls for dessert.
MVEA employees and the Future Business Leaders of America group from Limon schools were the servers for the evening. Singer and songwriter Brad Richmond provided pre-dinner entertainment, and retired MVEA board member Allen Gresham gave the invocation.
Two districts where directors’ three-year terms were up included District 2, Rick L. Gordon; and District 7, Donna Andersen-Van Ness. Each district was uncontested and each incumbent director was re-elected for a new term. Joe Martin, board president, and Jim Herron, chief executive officer, reported on the state of the cooperative and legislative issues that impact services, rates and members.
Throughout the meeting, door prizes were awarded including $2,500 in cash from MVEA; a 43-inch LED SMART television provided by power supplier Tri-State Generation and Transmission; a 55-inch Samsung Curved LED SMART television provided by Foothills Energy, a MVEA construction contractor; and $150 in Home Depot gift cards from electrical supply cooperative Western United Supply. In addition, the two winners of MVEA’s $500 Whole Home LED Giveaway were announced.
The next annual meeting will take place in Calhan June 7, 2018.
