"I could tell you that when you have trouble making up your mind about something, tell yourself you’ll settle it by flipping a coin. But don’t go by how the coin flips; go by your emotional reaction to the coin flip. Are you happy or sad it came up heads or tails?"
– David Brooks

New owner gives salon a makeover
  Staff report

Jessa Kihn purchased Encore Salon; and, after making a few changes, re-opened it in January as Jessa’s Beauty Parlor. According to her Facebook page, the reviews are enthusiastic.

This is her first venture into the beauty business, but Kihn said she has owned other businesses in Maryland.

Kihn lives in Fountain, and chose Falcon for her business because of all the wonderful things she had heard about the area. “I like how Falcon is a small-knit community,” she said. “I wanted to be a new establishment that grew with the rest of the town.”

Jessa’s Beauty Parlor has four hair stylists, and also offers facials, eyelash extensions, gel manicures, waxing and complimentary paraffin treatments.

Kihn’s goal is to make her business “a place where people love to go, where they can make new friendships while they get pampered.”

A grand opening is in the works, but a date has not yet been determined.

Dave Genevich — EXIT Realty Meridian Ranch
  Staff report

It is a seller’s market right now; there aren’t enough homes to satisfy the amount of buyers; and Dave Genevich, a Realtor with EXIT Realty Meridian Ranch, said that scenario creates a perfect storm for many buyers.

Higher home prices are “great for sellers but can create a hurdle for some buyers, especially first-time home buyers,” he said. However, lower interest rates gives buyers more buying power, he added. “While new homes and apartment complexes continue to be built, we are also experiencing job growth, so the inventory equation seems to be staying steady at lower inventories and higher demands,” he added. Falcon is more challenged by a lack of inventory than Colorado Springs, Genevich said.

Genevich has been a Realtor with EXIT for about three years; with nine agents in the Meridian Ranch office, they have a combined experience of 40 years, he said. “While our primary focus is our immediate area — Meridian Ranch, Woodmen Hills, Paint Brush Hills, etc., — and we also have agents in our office that serve other parts of the metro area, including all the way to Fountain, Lorson Ranch, Briargate/Northgate and the rest of the Springs,” he said.

Genevich moved to Colorado from Chicago, and said the “social nature of the Shops at Meridian Ranch makes it (Falcon) a great place to be involved with and a part of the community.

“I love the feel of the community –- it reminds me a little of how things used to be — neighbors who know each other, a bit of a small-town feel, in a welcoming, open way.”

His daughter is a competitive figure skater, which prompted the move from Chicago to Colorado.

Genevich built a home in Wolf Ranch to be closer to the city for his daughter, who trains in Monument and attends the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. His wife works in the Pikes Peak Library District.

“My wife and I spent a lot of time in ice rinks, so it’s really nice to have the type of sunshine and climate we are now privileged to experience,” he said. “We couldn’t be happier here, and are thrilled to call this our forever home. You might also find me at Antler Creek, trying to make the occasional par.
