  Chamber news
  By Brandon Shaw
   Financial advisor with Edward Jones

The Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting Aug. 1, and it was sponsored by Richard Kiedinger with Allstate insurance. Richard was also a guest speaker, along with Jeff Petersma from the Falcon Fire Protection District.
Richard presented information on the benefits of working with Allstate. One great takeaway from his presentation was a reminder to check coverage on a regular basis, especially to know how much you are covered on the liability side of your insurance.
The second speaker was Jeff Petersma from the FFPD, which gave the chamber another chance to hear more about the FFPD if they were unable to attend the after hours event at the fire station last month. This presentation added information on how the Falcon fire district operates and the current goals of the fire district. One goal is to have their own ambulance service that would help reduce their overall response times. Currently, they are partnering with AMR but would like to have their own that would primarily service Falcon.
The next meeting of the chamber will be Sept. 5, and the El County Colorado School District 49 Zone leaders will be presenting.

   New Allstate office

The Michael Lordino Agency opened July 1 in the Safeway shopping center in Suite 120. Lordino is an Allstate agent, and new to the insurance business.
He spent more than 20 years as a retail executive for Sears, and decided to make a change. “I was tired of the corporate ladder world, and I wanted to run my own business,” he said. His retail job also meant plenty of travel, and Lordino said he wanted to spend more time with his wife and two young children.
Last fall, the family moved from Seattle to Colorado; however, they aren’t new to Colorado. Lordino spent 12 years in Larkspur before moving to the Northwest. He said he and his wife are looking for a house between Monument and Falcon. He has a daughter in District 38.
Allstate Insurance is involved in their communities, and sponsors the Allstate Foundation Purple Purse. According to its website, “Allstate Foundation Purple Purse is dedicated to breaking the cycle of domestic violence through financial empowerment.” Tennis great Serena Williams is the spokeswoman for the foundation. Lordino has joined the Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce, and is currently firming up plans for his own involvement to support the community.
The Lordino family’s leisure activities include camping, skiing and hiking and ATV. Lordino can be reached at 719-749-6777.
