The Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce held its monthly membership meeting at The State Bank in Falcon during an after-hours social event. We had over 20 members and guests in attendance, including many members that have been unable to attend our regular morning meetings.
The social, hosted by The State Bank, included great food provided by Bobbi Nielsen from Grace Community Church. Also, a short presentation by Luke Smith, bank vice president, provided information about some of the offerings and programs at the bank. The State Bank is a locally owned and community oriented bank at 7495 McLaughlin Road. For information about how they can help you, call 719-494-2265.
There was plenty of networking opportunities among the members and guests. Al Kreps, senior vice president of The State Bank, shared a brief history of how the bank started, including its past and current owners. Mr. Kreps is a wealth of information from his many years in the banking industry.
The chamber would like to thank The State Bank for hosting the after-hours event. Due to the July 4 holiday, there will be no membership meeting in July; the next meeting is Aug. 2.
   Upcoming speakers:
Aug. 2 The featured speaker will be a representative from Shield616, a local nonprofit focused on providing local law enforcement officers with the needed equipment to protect themselves from increasing threats against them. The nonprofit is also helping break down the barriers between local law enforcement and the community.
Sept. 6 Matt Barrett will be the featured speaker for the meeting, and will discuss Peak Partners Leadership Academy and its partnership with Falcon School District 49.
Oct. 4 The chamber will be having another after-hours event at the new UC Health facility in the Walmart Shopping Center. This will give our members and their guests a chance to see the new facility and see what UC Health has to offer in our community.
Nov. 1 Mike Donahue will be the featured speaker for this meeting, discussing his program, Value Up, which is focused on the issue of teen suicide.
If you or your organization would be interested in speaking at one of the upcoming chamber meetings, contact the chamber board at
The Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce meets the first Wednesday of each month, from 7 to 8:30 a.m. at Grace Community Church, 9475 Grace Church View in Falcon.
